This well-preserved true 1st UK STEREO pressing dates from initial August 1965 release on the yellow & black Parlophone label: PCS 3071
Both labels carry the 'Sold in UK...' text with 'The Gramophone Co. Ltd...' rims and a 'KT' purchase tax code on the side 2 label.
Crucially, this early copy has the correct 1st pressing labels which bear an asterisk after the 'I Need You' title. On 2nd and later pressings, this asterisk appears before the same song title.
Matrices: YEX 168-1 & YEX 169-1
Stamper codes: 3/AH & 2/AL
Vinyl weight: 157g
Housed in a front laminated, tri-flipback 'Garrod & Lofthouse' printed stereo cover, complete with 'Use Emitex...' rice-paper lined inner-sleeve.
This particular copy was exported on release to the U.S. and still retains its original $2.50 store price sticker and opened shrink wrapping.
Labels: EXCELLENT +
Both are clean & bright with several spindle marks on the side 2 label centre hole with less appearing on side 1.
Disc (Visual/Audio): EXCELLENT +
Clean, deep-gloss playing surfaces which bear just a couple of light, but noticeable, turntable scuffs on side 2 but nothing we would term a scratch. Closer examination directly beneath halogen light reveals nothing more than some harmless wispy paper-type hairlines from the rice-paper lined inner-sleeve and a sparkling rainbow shine.
This great sounding copy has received attention from quality equipment only and all tracks play cleanly and clearly with a warmth and presence found only on this early mix, which differs from the 1980's digital remix available today. All tracks are free from any crackle, groovewear or any other play-related issues. Even the delicate 'Yesterday' plays beautifully with no trace of any break-up or interference.
Cover: EXCELLENT +
Protected for the past 54 years inside its original shrink, this strong and clean cover is in fine shape. The high-gloss front panel laminate has, as in most cases with these earliest of covers, taken on some natural toning. However there is no sign of any scratching, thumbnail wrinkles or ringwear. Some bruising and softening is present to the upper left corner but the others are in nice shape. Both front and rear opening edges are sharp and free from any tears or feathering with just a hint of age-toning to the mouth of the rear. The rear panel itself is clean, white & unblemished and is free from any writing, missing paper. All flipbacks are clean & in-place and both seams and the fully worded spine are smooth, unstressed & unsplit. The original shrink has a tear to one corner but no missing sections.
