Description

This is an ultra-rare UK 1st pressing of their debut album dating from April 1964 release on the unboxed Decca label: LK 4605

This early pressing contains the 2.52 'demo' version of the song 'Tell Me', which was quickly substituted with a longer '4.06' version for all subsequent pressings. This shorter version has never been re-released.

A recording of that same demo version of 'Tell Me' (not recorded from this actual disc) can be heard by clicking on the YouTube link in the photo gallery.

The side 1 label on this disc has 'I Need You Baby' listed as track 4 on label 1, the 'Hurran, Calvert' writing credit for 'Honest I Do' and the 'Cromwell Music' publishing credit.

Matrices: XARL 6271-1A & XARL 6271-1A

Stamper codes: 2B/UB & 1/K

Vinyl weight:  148g

House in a front laminated, non-flipback 'Printed in England' mono cover, again with 'I Need You' listed as track 4 on side 1.

Complete with original poly-lined inner-sleeve.

CONDITION

DISC

Labels: EXCELLENT

Both are clean and bright with a number of spindle marks on each but otherwise undamaged.

Visual: VERY GOOD -

Clean, glossy playing surfaces with several light surface marks and a few small scratches (a couple of which can be felt) all consistent with the amount of play this disc has received. Closer inspection beneath halogen light reveals nothing further than some wispy paper marks and a sparkling rainbow shine.

Audio: VERY GOOD -

Despite frequent play, all tracks play without any major faults. Our careful play-check at volume detected an occasional click and low-level background in some quieter passages and between tracks. However there are no jumps, repeats or other significant audible issues. The sound quality throughout remains powerful and enjoyable and does not disappoint.

Cover: EXCELLENT

A highly respectable example which has been stored all its life inside a protective cover in a non-smoking environment. As a result, the front panel laminate is clean, glossy and undamaged. The only sign of wear here are two small 'thumbnail' wrinkles. All corners are in nice shape with no heavy bumps or bruising and both opening edges are clean and undamaged. The exposed rear panel is clean & white and free from any writing or missing paper. In fact, apart from a tiny mark to the right of Keith's portrait, it is unblemished. Both seams and the fully worded spine are unstressed & unsplit.

Inner-sleeve: EXCELLENT
