Let It Be, Apple PXS 1, Box Set, stereo, May 8, 1970.
The components of the Let It Be box set: outer slipcase with exposed inner tray to hold a book; album cover and vinyl disc catalog number PCS 7096 standard white paper EMI inner sleeve (patent #1125555 Made In England) “Get Back” book. The same Ethan Russell color photos of the faces of John, Paul, George, and Ringo appear on the slipcase, record sleeve, and book. The backside of the slipcase is black. Text “Designed by John Kosh. Photographs by Ethan A. Russell. Printed and made in Great Britain by Garrod & Lofthouse Limited (Patents Pending)” appears in white on the bottom.
The books were printed by Garrod & Lofthouse before the publishing credits were known. The printing on the credit page to these books starts with “Designed by John Kosh” and ends with “by Apple Publishing.” These books can be found in three different ways. One variant has a white sticker with the publishing information applied below the printed information. The book starts with a blank white page. The second variant also has a white sticker with the publishing information applied below the printed information, but the book starts with a blank black page. The third variant has a translucent sheet with the publishing information that overlays the credit page so that the printed information can be read. The book starts with a blank black page. The later books have the publishing information printed on the credit page. There are two variations, start with a blank white page or start with a blank black page.
The full laminated cover was printed by Garrod & Lofthouse. The back cover also has a black background. The text quoted at the beginning of this chapter, along with the song titles, appears in white above photos of each Beatle. The group’s name, album title, and catalog number “Apple Records PCS 7096” appear in white on the spine. The first covers have a red Apple logo on the back. These covers were used for the deluxe box package as well as the initial batch of albums issued without the box and book.
